Frequently asked questions.

What are transitional housing accommodations?

Our transitional housing accommodations are single-family homes in safe neighborhoods. The home provides a supportive environment to help residents cope with addiction and mental illness. Studies show that it is helpful in recovery to have roommates, so each of our bedrooms has enough space for two residents. We look for homes with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, a large kitchen, and large dining and living rooms.

These transient accommodations bridge the gap from homelessness to permanent housing. Length of stay is generally no longer than a year. During this time, residents work at nearby businesses, acquire life skills, and are encouraged to develop themselves through higher education and job training.

Are the accommodations free for residents?

Our residents pay affordable rent, which is usually around $500 per month. Rent includes utilities and internet. We also may accept government grants and contracts to help pay for costs.

How are monetary donations used?

Money graciously donated to HOUSE, Inc. may be used to lease, built, or acquire single-family homes, pay for utilities and home maintenance, purchase furnishings, and provide other supportive services for our residents.

What do you accept for donations?

We accept clothes, home furnishings, kitchenware, books, and electronics. If you think it may be of benefit to our residents, we may accept it.
