Program status
Emergency Housing Assistance Program is currently paused due to limited resources at this time.
We are a small charity with a very limited number of volunteers and modest donation levels, which affects our capacity to accept new applications. Response times for email and phone inquiries will be significantly delayed; email is preferred whenever possible. If you are facing eviction right now, please see our apply page for alternative resources. When the situation improves, we will make an announcement and reopen the program.
Why we exist
Unexpected expenses — a medical emergency, a car repair, a sudden job loss — can push even working families to the brink of eviction. The gap between income and housing costs continues to widen, and existing government assistance programs have limitations that leave many families vulnerable.
HOUSE, Inc. was founded to stand in that gap. We provide direct financial assistance to families facing eviction so that a single setback does not become a generational crisis: a lost home, disrupted schooling for children, a cycle of instability that is difficult to break.
What we believe
Safe, secure housing is a foundation, not a privilege. When families remain housed, children stay in their schools, parents can maintain employment, and communities remain stable. The benefit of preventing an eviction reaches far beyond the household we help.
Small, focused help can change a trajectory. We are not a large social-services agency and we do not try to be. We are a small, accountable 501(c)(3) that targets its limited resources where they can have an immediate, measurable impact: keeping a family in their home.
Every case is reviewed by people, not algorithms. Our volunteer board reads every application. We consider the specifics of each household's situation, the path to stability, and the responsible use of donor funds.
What we do
Our primary program is emergency rental assistance — direct payments to landlords and housing providers to:
- Cover rent arrears and prevent an active eviction filing
- Catch up a household after a temporary income disruption
- Bridge a gap so a family can remain stable while a longer-term solution (employment, benefits, family support) takes hold
Where appropriate, assistance is provided as a zero-interest forgivable loan rather than a grant. This allows donor funds to be recycled to help additional families, while remaining truly forgivable for borrowers with documented hardship.
Who we help
We prioritize working families and individuals with:
- An imminent risk of eviction with documented hardship
- A clear, credible path back to financial stability (employment, benefits resolution, or other)
- A positive prior rental history
- Income or income-imminent status that does not qualify them for traditional government assistance
We assist households across the United States on a case-by-case basis. We do not restrict assistance by geography.
Our scale, honestly stated
We are a very small organization. We are not able to help everyone who applies. Our current capacity is to support a small number of households each year, and we are committed to being transparent about that.
What we can promise is that every case we accept is treated with care, dignity, and a focus on the specific path to stability for that household.
